“Artful body language, authentic commedia slapstics and a merrily byzantine plot made even more vivid by superb doo-wop singing and taut intsrumental playing. I swear I’ve never had so much fun in a field.”
Jenny Gilbert – Independent on Sunday (July, 2010) ****

THE EDGE OF ENGLAND

Photographs 2006 – 2009

Alexander Brattell

Alex

Exhibition runs from Saturday 31st October to Saturday 5th of December

Alexander Brattell’s photographs travel elegantly through time, incidental images that have a resonance beyond what they represent. Brattell discovers interior landscapes amongst the physical detritus of the everyday, making photographs that are more concerned with describing sensation and experience than with depicting appearances. Brattell is based in St. Leonards On Sea on the south coast of England. He has exhibited in locations as diverse as The Prince’s Foundation and the Royal London Hospital. Published by The Times, Telegraph Publishing and Condé Nast, his work has featured on numerous book and album covers. His fine art prints are in private collections worldwide.

“Beatrice thinks Benedick is in love with her and Benedick thinks Beatrice is in love with him but neither of them are in love with anyone and Hero is betrothed to Claudio who thinks she’s been unfaithful and Leonato doesn’t know who to believe.”

McCarrons are delighted that Julian Anderson is having an exhibition of his photography with us, from 4th September to 8th October.
Julian-A-400

This exhibition of Julian Anderson’s highly acclaimed, beautifully subtle and
evocative black and white photographs of people, places and plants encompasses
15 years of work. Many of the images were originally commissioned by magazines,
newspapers, design groups and a wide variety of corporate clients, while some
of the recent landscapes and flower portraits have been created for this exhibition.
With clients as diverse as the Millennium Bridge Trust, The OldVic, Time,
CondeNast Traveller, The Guardian, Liberty and Aston Martin, Julian Anderson
has acquired an international reputation: ‘He works in the classic way,’ says the
designer Simon Esterson, of Esterson Associates, ‘not simply imposing a style
but taking photographs through real observation and reportage.’
Anderson’s work features in several books and the National Portrait Gallery’s
photography collection. All the images exhibited here are limited editions,
hand-printed and signed by the photographer.

The first exhibition of the summer is Chris Steele’s new works; Water, water everywhere   Pt2:

SmallRedBoatx3

The second collection of original watercolours by local artist Chris Steele exploring the theme of destinations by water. This new body of work takes its inspiration directly from the seaside towns of Hastings and St. Leonard’s-on-Sea.
Washes of colour with swift brush strokes seek simply to capture the energy of a scene. Using a loose abstract technique allows the paintings to convey a sense of place through colour and form.
Chris’s show begins on 9th June 2009, and continues until 14th July 2009.
(The exhibition is in the McCarron’s shop and gallery space.)
